Pali, "teaching of the elders of the order"; Hinayana school (also called the Pali school) belonging to the Sthavira group, which developed from the Vibhajyavadin school.  It was founded by Moggaliputta Tissa (Buddhist council) and brought to Ceylon in 250 B.C.E. by Mahinda, where it was propagated by the monks of the Mahavihara monastery.  Conflicts over disciplinary questions led to schism within the Theravada.  Today the Theravada is widespread in the countries of Southeast Asia (Sri Lanka, Burma, Thailand, Kampuchea, Load, etc.).

Hinayana: Sanskrit, "Small Vehicle"; originally a derogatory designation used by representatives of the Mahayana ("Great Vehicle") for early Buddhism.  The followers of Hinayana themselves usually refer to their teaching as the Theravada (Teaching of the Elders), in spite of the fact that strictly speaking, Theravada was one of the schools within the Hinayana; it is however, the only one still existing today.  Hinayana is also referred to as Southern Buddhism.

London Buddhist Vihara London,England The London Buddhist Vihara is a leading centre for Theravada Buddhism. Formed in 1926 by Anagarika Dharmapala, the Vihara was the first Buddhist monastery to be established outside the continent of Asia. It has continued its missionary activities with resident bhikkhus (monks) from Sri Lanka throughout this period, with the exception of the 1940s due to World War II. The Vihara moved to Chiswick during 1964 when the Anagarika Dharmapala Trust of Sri Lanka purchased the freehold property at Heathfield Gardens. In 1994 the Vihara moved to new spacious premises in The Avenue, Chiswick. The Vihara is managed by the Anagarika Dharmapala Trust who also appoints the resident Dhammaduta Bhikkhus. - http://londonbuddhistvihara.co.uk/

Metropolitan and under the patronage of Pra Dharmapanyajarn, the abbot of Wat Makutkasatriyam, Bangkok, Thailand. Since there are many Thai and other Asian people living in this area, the need to have a temple is occurred. First, the Wat was located in Falls Church, and then the Wat moved to Fairfax Station.
