Mountain Range: Mustang Mountains

Map Quadrangle: Mustang

Mountain Height: 6,150 feet

Hike Description: A 3 ½ mile bushwhack 40 miles southeast of Tucson. The Geocache: Throne of Kaidoz is probably not what you think. Go south of the peak to see the throne.

Hike Length: 3 ½ miles, round trip

Hike Time: 2 hours, 42 minutes; round trip (adjusted)

Hike Type: Bushwhacking

Hike Difficulty: Hard

Elevation Gain: 1,000 feet, total to top

Directions to Trailhead:

From Tucson, take I-10 to Hwy 83 south.
At Sonoita, turn left (east) onto Hwy 82.
After 8.3 miles, turn right (N31 43.435 W110 31.481) onto Upper Elgin Rd.
After 2.5 miles, turn left (east) (N31 41.391 W110 31.208) going through a gate and onto a dirt road.
After about 100 feet, bear right.
After 1.1 miles from the gate, go left (east) through another gate. Just after this second gate, bear left.
After about .5 miles, park just off the road.

Hike Directions: Bushwhack up a ridge on the right to the peak (N31 42.192 W110 29.500).

Vehicle: High clearance vehicle or you might try a car but it is not recommended.

Note: Peak 5506 is just to the east. Mt. Bruce (6087) is to the northwest. If you continue driving (east) past the parking area, you will come to a water tank (N31 41.726 W110 29.530), the dirt road goes south to a fence, and then (west) back to the parking area.
